F_ART (FASHION MEETS ART)
Harare, Zimbabwe '16
Village Unhu & Amanzi Gallery
Village Unhu & Amanzi Gallery
F_ART, a collaborative performance art fashion exhibition. This multidisciplinary arts project explored the concepts of sustainability, identity creation, and storytelling. The exhibition centred around the rise of second-hand clothing bales entering the Zimbabwean fashion market and investigated its impact on the local fashion landscape. We examined how this influx is transforming dress codes, influencing creative practices, and challenging local fashion businesses. Embracing the philosophy of "if you can't beat them, join them," F_ART explored how local creatives are reimagining fashion within this new context, addressing issues of sustainability, livelihood, and industry growth. Through fashion, we examined the evolving dialogue between local creatives, the concept of bales, and the broader socio-economic and cultural landscape.
